5 Sweet Wedding Cake Ideas

Wedding cakes, the traditional dessert served at wedding receptions following dinner, are not only delicious, they can be beautiful and unique as well.

For any DJ services, book me here and you can find photography, videography, and photo booths with my other company Fresh New Angle Events, and mention my name when asked.

In modern Western culture, the wedding cake is usually on display and served to guests at the reception. Traditionally, wedding cakes were made to bring good luck to all guests and the couple. Modernly however, they are more of a centerpiece to the wedding and are not always even served to the guests. Some cakes are built with only a single edible tier for the bride and groom to share, but this is rare since the cost difference between fake and real tiers is minimal. [source]

Wedding cakes can come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors. While traditional cakes are usually white, the cakes can be iced, filled, or decorated with fondant.

Below is a short list of cakes that I have seen (with a bonus dessert option thrown in). For other gorgeous cake trends, check out this post by Junebug Weddings.

Gender Neutral Ombre Cake.jpg

Ombre Cakes

A wedding I entertained at last year had a beautiful ombre cake with faded blues and greens. Ombre is the gradual blending of one color hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark.

This is a great gender-neutral example for same-sex weddings. Check out other ombre cake ideas here.

Textured Theme Cake

Although not from a wedding, this cake is the perfect example for a themed or textured cake. This cake happened to be for an 80's-themed birthday.

BONUS: Carved Fruit

These melons were carved to resemble the bride and groom. However, the groom had a beard and I can see how that can be hard to portray, but they did a great job!
