Mistakes To Avoid When Choosing Your Wedding Venue

A lot goes into choosing a wedding venue. Here are just some of the biggest mistakes to avoid when securing a venue.
Not considering the size of the venue
If you’re inviting lots of guests, you need to be sure that your venue is big enough. If it’s too crowded, it could make it less enjoyable for many guests. The room in which you hold your ceremony is particularly important to consider – you want to be certain that all your guests are able to fit in and that they can all have a seat.
Not considering the accessibility of the location
When choosing the location of the venue, make sure that it’s not too hard for guests to reach it. Not all of your guests are going to want to take flights before driving out to a remote location. Cities tend to be great locations for venues because they have lots of transport links and there’s a lot of accommodation nearby. Not all city venues are modern buildings – there are plenty of beautiful historical venues such as The Grand Hall for those that want a venue with character. Just make sure to research into aspects like parking when choosing city accommodation.
Not factoring in the weather
If you’re planning to get married outdoors, make sure to factor in the weather. It’s useful to have a building that you can use as a backup option. Alternatively, you could erect a marquee to shelter under if it starts raining or if guests need shade from the sun.
Not looking into licenses/permissions
You need to be sure that your venue has all the appropriate licenses for your event. This could include a music license, food license and alcohol license. You may also want to check what is permitted in the venue. Some venues don’t allow any form of fire – which could include candles.
Not considering your vendors needs
Your vendors may have certain requirements. If you’re outsourcing catering, appropriate kitchen space may be necessary for preparing food, unless they’re able to prepare the food off-site. If you’re hiring a DJ or a band, you may also have to look into the sound system. Access to electricity can be something that often gets overlooked in outdoor weddings – you may need to hire a portable generator if there aren’t any conveniently accessible electrical outlets.
Not booking early enough
The venue should ideally be the first thing you secure. The type of dress you wear and the type of entertainment you choose can all be influenced by the venue (for instance, if you’re getting married outdoors, you may not want to choose a dress with a trail and may have to make special arrangements for the DJ). Try to book the venue at least a year ahead. Leave it to late and you could find that your ideal venue is already booked up. By booking early, you get more choice when it comes to availability.
