Planning a wedding is a huge task. Sure, it’s only one event and generally only runs over the course of one day. But many of us won’t have had to plan anything of this size before. Plus, the pressure is on. So many of us romanticise and focus on our dream weddings over the years that we want everything to run as smoothly as possible and be as perfect as can be. Now, there is the option of using a professional wedding planner, who will have a deep insight into the ins and outs of what works and what doesn’t, what you need to focus on to bring the day together and what might suit your needs and preferences. But many of us will want to save the costs and plan things ourselves. These funds could go towards a different aspect of the day we’d rather invest in! Now, a simple way to make sure you don’t miss anything out of your planning process is to create a thorough wedding checklist. Here are a few things that you might like to feature on it.
The Venue
First, you need to make sure you have booked somewhere to actually get ready. Generally speaking, you have to have a licenced venue to ensure that the wedding is legitimate. It’s best to book this aspect of your day well in advance, as high quality venues tend to be in high demand and there may be waiting lists. The sooner you settle on a venue, the sooner you can put down a deposit to secure it or the sooner you can get on the waiting list. To find your dream wedding venue, it’s important to do a lot of research, read others’ reviews and experiences of the venue and to actually visit the venue yourself to ensure it lives up to its photographs.
The Outfits
Whatever you plan to wear on your wedding day - a dress, a suit or anything else - it’s a good idea to start seeking your outfits out early one. This will allow time to mull over your options and will allow for alterations to be made if necessary. Sometimes, you’ll find your dream outfit and it won’t fit, but it will be perfect if you have time for some alterations to be made.
The Cake
Like good wedding venues, good wedding cake designers and makers can be in very high demand. Take a look at different options that appeal to you (Pinterest and wedding magazines are a good place to find inspiration) and book in for a consultation with a professional whose service you’re planning on using to see whether they can bring your dreams to a reality. You don’t necessarily have to stick to the traditional tiered fruit cake. You can have whatever you like - it’s your big day!
These are just a few different factors of a wedding day that feature on the vast majority of people’s wedding checklists. Hopefully, they’ll help to get your own checklist off to a good start!
