Can I Have Your Attention - Managing Guests’ Behaviors

One of the host's pet peeves at every party is the guests' mistakes. Yet, your guests are often left to guess which behavior is acceptable at your party. Whether it is a wedding, a birthday party, or even a business event, there need to be some clear rules in place to help your guests.

Most hosts complain about the following aspects of guest etiquette:

  • Guests who overstay their welcome and stay long after everybody else has left

  • Guests who come without a gift

  • Guests who don't arrive on time

  • Guests who use their phones

  • Etc.

However, the party standards are changing, and more and more hosts are setting new rules for their events. In other words, guests following traditional party etiquette may find themselves standing out at your event or missing out on important information. For instance, it's not uncommon for some guests to feel disoriented when they attend a party in an unknown location and feel left out when everyone is going to finish the night at a local club they didn't even know about. In short, you want to create a party that clearly keeps your guests in the loop. So how can you get their attention and ensure they don't make any faux pas?

Write it in the invite

When planning a party or wedding, it's important to let your guests know what to expect before they arrive. By including key details about the event in your invitation, you can ensure that your guests have a great time and feel comfortable throughout the night.

One of the most important things to include in your invitation is the rules and expectations for your party. This way, all of your guests will know what type of behavior is expected from them when they arrive. If your event is an adult-only gathering, for example, be sure to specify this in the invite. Similarly, if you don't want guests to bring any gifts, state this explicitly in the invitation.

Interactive phone-friendly activities

Interactive activities are a great way to get your guests involved and help create lasting memories. But, with the increasing popularity of smartphones, it can be tricky to engage people when they are already so used to being on their devices. To ensure your guests stay connected and engaged, why not plan activities that involve their phones? If there are kids around, consider some interactive games to keep them busy.

One idea is to create a custom hashtag for your event so that you and your guests can easily access all the photos from the event. This also gives your guests the opportunity to share the photos on their social media accounts and help spread the word about your special occasion. You can also encourage your guests to take photos throughout the event and post them with the hashtag.

Be heard

When planning a party or wedding, it's important to make sure that your guests can hear the important announcements throughout the night. Hiring a DJ with a quality wireless handheld microphone is key for entertaining and ensuring that all your guests are up-to-date on the event's itinerary. Furthermore, having a microphone allows for other interactive activities to take place. During pauses in the music, the DJ can conduct games such as trivia or karaoke for everyone to get involved in and enjoy. These activities can create lasting memories and truly make the night memorable. Here are some other ways to eliminate boredom at events.

Hopefully, these few tips can help you throw an unforgettable event and ensure your guests behave as you expect them to.
