Considering a Destination Wedding? Here Are Some Things To Keep In Mind

A destination wedding is a fantastic alternative to a traditional wedding in your home country. Instead of booking a venue such as a ranch or a church, there are plenty of great reasons to go abroad and have your holiday somewhere magical, unique, and memorable. But planning a destination holiday isn’t easy and it helps to have a bit of experience or some idea of where you want to go. So in this post, we’re going to cover a few things that you may want to keep in mind before you start handing out invitations to people.

When to notify your guests

One of the first things to consider is when you notify your guests. Most weddings are planned a year in advance to ensure that everyone can take time off work or plan around it. It’s to avoid situations where people have already made future plans and it ensures that everyone has plenty of warning so that they can make it to your wedding.

However, for a destination wedding, people tend to appreciate a bit more notice in advance. You may need to make several announcements. For example, you could announce your plans to have a destination wedding 16 months prior to when you actually want to get your wedding. Then at the 14-month mark, you should start giving people more details such as where you plan to go, for how long, and also give them some extra information about the location.

Should you pay for guests?

One of the biggest questions people have when it comes to destination weddings is who pays. Traditionally speaking, guests are the ones that should cover their own lodging and travel expenses. However, if you're financially able to and think it will convince a few more people to come, then you are always welcome to provide financial support to guests or even outright pay for some of them.

Do you help guests book?

Normally, no. However, you may want to facilitate the process by using destination wedding planning services to help you out, especially if you know that you’re going to have a lot of people attend your wedding. This makes the entire process a lot easier to manage and it gives you professional advice and support the whole way, making it simple for you to plan a destination wedding without stressing yourself out.

How do I choose a location?

This is something that really comes down to your personal preferences, but there are a few additional factors that you might want to consider. For example, is the location accessible with plenty of transport links and flight availability? If not, then you might need to provide a bit more support to help guests book. Is the location going to be suitable during the season that you want to get married? Make sure the weather is great by at least planning during a season where you’re unlikely to get rain.

A destination wedding is a fantastic alternative to a traditional indoor church wedding or an outdoor wedding. It’s a lot more expensive and requires a lot of planning, but it’s ultimately a great idea that will make for many unique memories.
