When you first start out in business, you tend to bear the bulk of the work on your own shoulders. You do what you can and outsource the rest. But as your business starts making sales and demand grows, you’re likely to take on staff to help with the workload and drive your business forward. This comes hand in hand with a whole host of responsibilities, from managing their health and safety to providing them with career progression opportunities, providing employee benefits and more. Another responsibility you have with your staff is to ensure that they are happy and engaged with your company. This not only helps with staff retention, but also creates a more positive and enjoyable working atmosphere. One way you can help show your staff you appreciate them, or help them bond as a team, is to hold events for them. Here are a few that you might want to take into consideration!
Team Building Events
Team building is essential for any business. Often, employees can find it difficult to break the ice between one another - especially staff working in different departments. But you need good and open communication between your employees to make the most of their skills for your business. By working together, they can produce better results. Team building activities can aid with this. It can break the ice and encourage positive associations between different employees within your business. Generally, most companies will use specialist agencies and companies to arrange team building days for their team. You only need put these one once a year or so, but they can make all the difference. From scavenger hunts to escape rooms, these days are more than worth the investment!
Christmas / End of Year Parties
Another big date in the office calendar is the Holiday Party, Christmas or end of year party. The majority of companies put these on to help staff celebrate their achievements throughout the course of the year. Of course, it’s good to get out of the office, so you may want to consider hiring a venue or hiring out a bar or restaurant for proceedings. You may also want to consider entertainment for corporate event. Be wary of providing too much alcohol, as you don’t want staff to embarrass themselves or act inappropriately. If there is alcohol available, encourage moderate and responsible drinking.
Summer Events
Another event that many businesses are now putting on is a summer event. This can be simple and cheap, but creates a great opportunity for your staff to spend time with one another and relax. BBQs tend to be a good option. Make sure to check dietary requirements of your staff to ensure that you can provide appropriate food for everyone, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Even incorporating a farmers market for your employees to enjoy and help the community, is a great idea.
As you can see, events for staff can be a whole lot of fun, so it’s a good idea to arrange a few and spread them throughout the year. Hopefully, some of the advice above will help you to make a success of any events that you do plan!
